Procore Direct is committed to integrating ecological and environmental responsibility into our business activities and to contributing to environmental education programs in the regions where we operate.
We have set for ourselves, as an integrated procurement company, the challenge to seek and work with vendors that exercise the responsible use of resources. Our challenge is significant given that we operate largely from the developing world where education and the understanding of the effects of waste and pollution can be very limited.
To contribute to the education and promotion of a broader understanding of a sustainable environment, there is no better place to make a lasting impact than to work with the youth of a society.
Procore Direct has partnered with the Jane Goodall Institute-Shanghai Roots & Shoots. We have developed a Recycling Education Program, to be implemented in over 50 primary and secondary schools in the Shanghai area.
Roots & Shoots is a leading international non-profit organization, dedicated to empowering young people around the world to learn about environmental issues affecting their communities, and giving them the tools to make a difference.
UPDATE 09/09/2009
We have students from 1000 classrooms in over 50 schools in the Shanghai area participating in our program. We have provided one thousand sets of three colored recycling bags for papers, plastics, and cans to middle schools to start collecting and sorting trash on campus. The program launched in December 2008, and on May 8 2009, representatives from 20 schools assembled at Roots & Shoots’ offices to review their achievements, share their experiences and teachings. Most of them reflected that the bags were very eye-catching and the activity of sorting waste has now started raise the recycling awareness among students in Shanghai. Since our goal is to encourage students to learn about the value of recycling and take action regarding the sorting and recycling of waste materials, the students use these tools as the medium to learn about the way to effectively recycle, the benefits of recycling, and how they can take their new knowledge into their own homes and community to influence environmental change. Students also discovered that they have more to learn about sorting and recycling. This fall, our campaign is to spread the Procore Direct Recycling Bag Program into Shanghai Primary Schools to teach the younger kids.
